Catarafted the Elk River below Webster Springs. Used a hand held GPS unit to measure the actual river miles as there has always been some confusion about the distance. The distance by road is about 8.5 miles. The river is 11.7 miles. Here is an image from Google Earth.
Took the cataraft out for a spin on the New River on the McCreery to Stonecliff section. Got surfed at Sidney Side Pocket.
Spent the day hiking the Gauley River starting at Carnifex Ferry State Park. Hiked down to the river and back on a steep trail. Shot some drone video from above and at river level.

Paddled McCreery to Stonecliff on the New river with Woody Davis and Dan Waller. Level was 7′ on the Thurmond gauge.
Some more video from April 5th. This is the right channel of the second rapid after the putin at Fenwick, then the following rapid and then Riley’s rapid. These all have changed since the big flood in June of 2016.
Had a great time on the Cherry River today. Paddled 6 miles from Fenwick to the confluence with the Gauley River. Was a chilly day, 34 degrees when we put on.
Paddled the Bluestone River in WV for the first time in years. The level was about 6′ which is ideal. We took out a few miles past the tram at Lilly, WV. Photos posted in the Paddling directory.
