Water was higher than expected, 9′ on the Thurmond gauge. Many of the rapids were somewhat washed out, mostly big wave trains. Rain was forecast but we only saw blue skies and sunshine. Had a nice turnout for a Sunday (Mother’s Day) trip on the Elk River below Webster Springs. Had a mixture of sun and clouds but not too cold. Temps were in the 60’s. Had some wind at times as well. Ten of us paddled the 11 miles. Photos are posted in the Paddling gallery.

What a great day on the Elk River today. Nine of us paddled the Elk below Webster springs. Water level was 6.5 feet. Air temp reached 80 degrees by the time we took off the river. Water was still cold from snow melt. Pogies were optional. Enjoy some photos in the Paddling gallery
